Hi,

My son is starting to draw up his list for Santa and one of the first things he's requested is Guitar Hero for his Wii. He quite likes listening to music, but this is the first time he's shown an inclination towards having a go himself. I know it is probably pretty far removed from the real thing but, as far as I'm concerned, it's a step in the right direction and I'm keen to encourage him - if he shows a bit of persistence with it, we can maybe look to get him proper lessons later on next year.

However, looking at the 'guitar' itself, I have a concern as to whether it's just too big for his hands, given he's only six years old (seven in March). Obviously, I'd rather not have his excitement turned to into frustration if it's just not possible for him to use properly; running the risk of him being turned off the idea of playing an instrument.

I've had a quick search to see if there is an age guidance on the game, but that seems to be driven more by the lyrical content of the songs in the game than a consideration of physical limitations.

So that's basically it; any experience, thoughts or observations gratefully received!

We had guitar hero for the ps3 (ended up with the full month drum kit etc.).

At the time, my nippers would have been around 4 & 6.

Both enjoyed playing. IIRC there's a really simple beginner mode, where the only thing required is to strum to the rhythm. Then there's easy, which uses one or two (can't remember) fret buttons plus strumming, and so on until a pretty bloody hard level.

Don't know the wii version, but would assume it's the same/similar.

Yes, I believe they are similar; certainly in respect of the guitar itself - that's reassuring, thanks for that!
