Good evening!

Currently looking to trade in her 07 plate Golf 1.6 for something for her business which will have branding on it. It will also be doing the school run so need something quite versatile..needs to have a good sized boot, be quite frugal but nice to drive. Budget is £20-£25k mark new, so she can get value on the Golf trade in, and a lowish monthly payment either pop or lease deal.

Her current short list is SUV heavy(I'd have a diesel Skoda Octavia vRS Estate in there if I get my way):- Honda CRV 2.2D, Kia Sportage 2.0CDi, Citroen Picasso 1.6 diesel, Ford Kuga or C Max Titanium X 2.0 DCTi.

What else should be on the list that has good boot space, nice spec, frugal and is pokey through the gears?

Many thanks!
Iain

Love the CR-V, good lease deals on the top of the range EX models; just such a shame it's slow and poor economy. Otherwise a cracking car.

Tiguan is always worth a shout, but not the biggest boot and bouncy in the back.

You what mate?
Needs to:
i) ferry around wife
ii) ferry around wife and kids

As diesels go the Honda 2.2 is not awful.
Juke/Qashqai more "fashionable".

Bare in mind that she will become one of those awful faux-suv drivers.

A big van... if she is VAT registered and uses the VAT solely for work.

Sorry mate you'll have to do the school run and loose out on the very sensible Skoda Vrs choice

Don't think the Yeti meets the big boot requirement, I'd say Scout but don't forget you can have 4x4 on any Octavia now.(just not with a petrol engine frown )

What is the definition of 'good' boot space? What does she normally carry in it?

I am in a similar position. Looked around and the CRV does most things well (although its not a fun drive its easy to drive which is what these type of cars about).

What I will say is a new CRV is coming out early next year.

Slow ? Poor Economy? I had a 2:2 Diesel, it wasn't slow. and it regularly returned above 40 mpg.

Pretty good for a fair chunk of car. Boot was reasonable too. I rate this and defo worth a test drive.

Have you actually seen the size of the boot on the Ford Kuga, it's tiny? We certainly couldn't live with one as our family car.

Lexus RX 450h.

V8 power from a V6 hybrid.

Comfy and quick.

What's not to like?

The fact that the budget is £20-£25k new perhaps?

I also had the 2.2 Auto for a couple of weeks and was only getting 31 out of it, and maybe 33 on a long run. That being said, it did only have several hundred miles on it.

It's not quick coming from an X3, but agreed, it's no Fiat Panda either and can keep up with traffic. It just didn't feel like a car you could even overtake someone doing 40 in the NSL without a decent run up.

£25k will get you a top of the range Ceed estate:

http://www.kia.co.uk/new-cars/range/mid-sized-cars...

Not an SUV granted but will ticks all the boxes unless she really wants to sit up high.

Worth a look when you go and see the Sportage (which is getting a bit old now and coming up for replacement soon).

What about a C4 Cactus? High(ish) seating position, interior will take the abuse from kids and certainly wont blend in to the background if she wants it to advertise her business as well.

Apologies.

I didn't read the 'new' bit.

Plenty of good second-hand ones out there at that price though and knock everything else mentioned into a cocked hat!

Agreed. If a used car is added to the list then it opens up a lot more options.
