Hi there,
On my way to work today I saw cameras on the other side of the road flash, I was heading towards them. I was doing about 35 in the 30, road was clear both directions. It was on the A23 just outside Brixton heading towards oval.
Do you think my christmas money is going to MR Blair?

If it was a standard bug yellow Gatso, I'd agree - they detect cars moving away from them.
However watch out for Truvelos on YOUR side of the road - they work on cars coming towards them.
NB I've also seen a Gatso firing spuriously - cars going past at <30mph in a 40 zone. Whether it's a glitch or deliberate scare tactics I don't know, though of course the two photos would prove no offence was committed.

I drove that stretch of road for the first time last week. Surprising number of cameras, both gatso and truvelo, on it. Then again, thinking about the way things are going, not at all surprising really.
Sounds like you'll be ok. Wait to see if a ransome demand drops through your letterbox in the next two weeks (if you're the Registered Keeper) and post here again it happens. Keep the envelope.

Don't know what a truvelo looks like, but thinking I'm going to need an Origin or Road Angel soon...
Stopped a car for 98 mph the other day on the motorway....measured his speed between two points with the "police pilot/pro vida/vascar"...
His Road Angel wasn't much use for him, I'm afraid
....even more so when I discovered he was a provisional licence holder

He was doing 98mph on a motorway and he had never ever taken a driving test......I would suggest that's quite dangerous....
But then again...he wasn't reported for dangerous driving, just speeding and driving without a licence and no insurance....

If it was a GATSO and not a Truvelo...then you will be ok...as Gatsos only measure speed by cars that travel AWAY from them, where Truvelos work on vehicles travelling TOWARDS them...
Presumably you know the difference between each camera.?

This was a big yellow box on a grey pole, there were white lines painted on the road too. Would a gatso still flash, but just not "catch" me?

sorry point badly made, motorway driving is not in the test anyway so I was wondering what difference it made to his driving, and I wondered if he was just unobservant (thus proving your point, really) or if you were hiding / unmarked. If you've pulled someone off the road who had no intention of getting license or insurance then

The point was well made and it's this: unsupervised learner driver are not allowed on the motorway. Period. He didn't see us, as we were parked on the entry slip road. We were, however, in a marked V70 estate.
It made very little difference to his driving, as far as I could see....but i'm not at a point where I'm going to let uninsured and unlicenced driver off, just because they can drive well at 98mph.

Well, if it did flash you I imagine you would get a ticket for speeding AND dangerous driving!

Except for the three induction strip things. Also there are a number of truvelos which have lines painted on the other side as I believe they can be turned round and used like gatsos.
