thinking of an upgrade
Discussion
I m thinking of changing my Chim 5 ltr for a Tuscan (well, who could resist?!). Problem is, I don t really know much about Tuscans so was looking for some tips on searching and buying. I dont know what spec to go for - would it be safe to assume that all specs would out-perform the chim? Also, I am not sure about what sort of mileages to look at. To be fair its probably budget related.
ANyway sorry its a bit wishy-washy in terms of questions, but any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
kev H.

Hi,
I'm not speaking from an expert point of view, as I am also looking to buy a Tuscan in '05, but what I will say is 'make up your own mind from what YOU can gather'!
I'm in the same boat as you, I don't have one yet. As you've had a TVR before, you'll know what it's like to have a hand-built car, more so than me so I'll shut up on that one. But like me, when you start doing research on Tuscans, you'll probably hear all the nay-sayers spouting stories of doom and gloom because of the "S6 engine problem". Some people have had bad experiences with them, and I don't wish to make light of whatever frutrations they've felt. But I know people who've had equal problems from mass-produced cars, so by my reasoning it's no reason to not buy a Tuscan. Every manufacturer is capable of making a 'Friday afternoon' sh***er of a car, and we're all capable of buying it.
Look carefully through the threads on here, I believe you will find more positive responses than negative, by some margin. There were three pages of feedback when someone asked if people had experienced engine problems......six pages when it was asked who hadn't. Those results went into a graph (many thanks to J_S_G, if I remember right), which shows these issues tailing off in the last few years.
Anyway, on to what you (and I!) wanted to hear. The majority of owners seem absolutely chuffed to bits with their Tuscans, the little TVR niggles that seem to crop up have pretty much all been described as being as good as insignificant once you get behind the wheel.
Like I say, this is a summary of what I've found while I've been looking for the same info as you. I'm hoping that knowing the angle from which another prospective buyer is coming from will be of help. So.....
I will be buying one as soon as I can.
I will be asking questions until I'm satisfied I know everything I need to.
I will be looking into the car's history as far as possible before I buy it, so I know what I'm buying.
I WILL have the biggest
grin on my face the day I get the keys in my hand!
On the age front, I think from about late 2002-2003 onwards are the best buys. The ins-and-outs of the technical/specification features are best left to the owners, I think!
Guys and gals......it's over to you lot!

P.S. Just found this as an example of what can go wrong elsewhere. Read down the thread.
