buggered clutch

Two day's before xmas and the clutch packs up
the pedal is rock solid
had the slave cylinder off and that is ok
checked fork to slave operation its ok
the only thing i can think is the thrust bearing has come out of the actuating fork is this common and can I fix it wothout removing gearbox
