I posted same question on the Noble forum - basically looking for an objective comparison of the Noble GTO 3R compared to the Ultima. Thanks.

It was interesting to see this comment posted on the Noble part of this post regarding the Ultima's corning ability.

"Theres virtually no objective analysis of its handling that I've ever seen"

?!?

I'd agree with that...... he's not saying it doesn't handle only that there is nothing to judge it from unless you have driven one.

What I was more surprised was the comments about the Ultima being a handfull...... mine had over 500bhp and whilst it needed respect it definatelly was not a handful, in fact it was easy to slide around on the road and makes you look like a master (which I am not)..... and it got better on track, although realistically it's never going to challenge a radical on cornering.

Mine also slaughtered the Noble in genuine back to back acceleration tests..... AND an Ultima is capable of 200mph if geared and powered suitably

Both are fantastic cars with genuine performance, handling and jaw dropping looks.
Choosing between them will be a real challenge unless you are like some of us here and wouldn't own a Noble purelly because you can't build it yourself.

I'd recomend you go for a drive in both regardless of wheather you intend to buy one

I would have to second that, as Andy says there is no question that it works well and rewards the driver with a serious buzz, having said that, when you know you can leave most things standing in straight line, it would be even better if you could evaluate and improve the handling. I try to evolve mine with changing the many different settings and when you get something right it's all the encouragement you need, the downside, is the time it takes to create a base line!

This is one of those debates that will rage forever!

Very few people have had the privalege to drive both.
I think V6GTO has a more unbiased approach as he has. (see Noble forum)

I like both cars but favour the Ultima for 2 reasons.

1. I built it myself (the decider in my view)

2. I prefer the sound of a big V8 rather than the whine of a turbo.

Whilst I think the Noble is a good car IMHO the performance of the Ultima GTR compared to a Noble is beyond comparison.

For example a 640bhp Ultima GTR will do 0-150mph in 11.8secs.
A Noble M400 will do 0-150mph in 23.1secs according to the brochure.

That makes the Ultima GTR twice as fast in that particlar test and both cars cost the same give or take a few £k either way.

and the Ultima GTR640 will out accelerate every other supercar

0-150MPH
Ultima GTR 11.8secs
McLaren F1 12.8secs
Ferrari Enzo 15.4secs
Koenigsegg CC8S 17.6secs

Just been on the track and my gtr caught an m400 and disposed of it without a problem in a straight line and around the bends.
My only complaint of my car was I couldn't get gears all the time on fast downshifts and the brakes are not that great, but the car has massive potential.

I have the factory AP brakes. I guess I've been spoilt in the past.

You might want to try sticking a bit more rear bias on. Ultimas do more braking on the rear than the front. I played safe to start with and had more on the front than the back and the brakes were good but not outstanding. Now I've got the bias better dialled in the brakes are astounding...feels like shoving a ship's anchor out the back into the tarmac once tyres/brakes are warmed up.

I'll try and measure it up later in the week (just locked up for the night...). It'll give you a starting point any way.

You could keep winding a bit on the rear and seeing which end locks up first. When the back goes before the front in the wet, replace underwear, wind it back another turn to the front!

I'd be very interested in the rear bias too - just ordered some MCs for my non-standard brakes. The raw calcs to standard show a signifcant rear bias... somewhere like 30%! That's just the MCs without any further bias adjustment.

On paper it seems v.high given weight dist to tyre footprint ratios - so I've opted to start with 10% and increase from there on the rears as necesssary... but maybe I should trust the calcs?!

Adam.

FYI to those interested, the calcs.

Standard MC dia front 0.75
Standard MC dia Rear 0.625

Calc'ing MC areas...

Total MC area front 0.44
Total MC area rear 0.31

Given a centralised bias bar pivot on the pedal and identical calipers etc all round = 30.56% more bias to rears from the MC differential alone.

Is even more rear bias required?

Do you not think that is a hell of alot of rear bias?
