Would it be possible to recieve a single email alert for multiple responses to a thread rather than one for each individual post?

I just got home to 13 of them - surely one would have sufficed (and saved bandwidth) when the first new post was made.

The current solution is the simplest and ensures you're notified immediately.

If you want a delayed digest then it gets more complicated as different people will have different criteria for how quickly they wish to be notified.

Sorry, maybe I didn't make that clear; with the current system:

I start a thread and subscribe to it.

14 people reply and for each I recieve an email.

What I've noticed a lot of other forums using:

I start a thread and subscribe to it.

14 people reply, once the first notification email is sent no more are sent until I view the thread or respond.

Once I have viewed/responded the counter is reset.

That make sense?

Ah, that's interesting. Thanks, I hadn't considered a mechanism like that.

Yes I have thought of this too. This is what I get from Mercedesshop.com

Hello pentoman,

rstallings has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to entitled - rebuilding my 300e 5spd - in the Performance Paddock forum of ShopForum.

This thread is located at:
www.mercedesshop.com/shopforum/showthread.php3?t=99097&goto=newpost

There may be other replies also, but you will not receive any more notifications until you visit the forum again.

Yours,
ShopForum team

This saves a reasonable amount of email bandwidth.

Some (well it would need to be all, and more) of the saved email bandwidth could potentially be used to have the system send notifications to everyone who has posted in that thread, rather than just the thread starter.

I couldn't understand how people remembered what threads they were following until i found 'my contributions' - perhaps that could be cleared up..? Or perhaps I just failed to read emails which mentioned 'my contributions' when I signed up, that's more my kind of thing.

keep up the excellent work
