I've just reversed my 14' car trailer onto my drive - nothing amazing about that - but it's the first time I've done it at night and despite:

living in a residential area
street lights
30 limit
straight road with excellent vision
trailer is lit front and back
I had my hazard lights on

The manoeuvre took perhaps a minute and each time I started, the road was clear.

The first car coming the other way clearly didn't see anything despite my trailer completely blocking his lane, I pulled forwards sharply to move it out the way - he locked up, mounted the kerb and narrowly missed it.

I started reversing again and a second car nearly does the same, my horn and my wife waving, stopped him in time.

A third car starts to overtake the second and nearly hit my car !

I'm shocked at their lack of observation however - had they hit my stationary trailer am I right in thinking it would have been their fault ?

I now realise why all the recovery trucks I see are plastered in reflective tape - I'm now going to buy some.

That is bloody ridiculous. Surely if you come across a car at an odd angle with trailer lights at an even odder angle with indicators flashing all over the place, you slow down to see what the hell is going on?
How do these aholes get through life without major injury?

Never amazes me

I had a guy at lights once step over the tow hitch and frame of a trailer with a car on the back

I shouted at him for being an idiot and he replied I should not be taking up so much room on the road

Had he walked in front of the car he would have crossed at the lights not step over and walk up the side of the car.....

Does make me wonder what would have happened if I had been moving off when he did his step over
