Hi, I am in a spot of bother.

I have a Ring RCB212 battery charger that although connected up to my car battery properly won't charge.

There is no charge light.

It's all connected up ok.

Any thoughts appreciated

Is the car battery completely flat? Some "intelligent" systems wont charge unless there is a nominal voltage for it to work.

It'll be the fuse, both ends would have touched before use or after and it pops the fuse. Iv got a we set of fuses as mines always pops after every few charging sessions when the first frost hits.

Not totally flat but itlooksso now. I leftist connected for an hour thinking that it may come right but no luck.

I am a total fkwit when it comes to mechanics . I would to my LandRover but I'm not going to risk foobaring the electrics of a 40 grand car (my wife's ). A grands worth of Xreg MG I can just about afford. :-)

As said, 'intelligent' chargers require a minimum voltage level on the battery for them to start charging. If you have a set of jumper cables you could connect the dead battery to a good battery for a few minutes to get the voltage up.

However if a battery is dead enough that one of these chargers won't operate, then it's quite likely to be damaged/degraded especialy if it's been in a deeply discharged state for some time. It will probably still charge, this can cause reduced capacity and/or high self discharge afterwards IME.

The stupid and annoying thing is I have one of those yellow jumper packs. Since moving house, I have lost the charger. I have a box of random chargers, but none work.

That would sort it in an instant. Anyone know of the right type I need to buy?

So you have a charger, and a boost pack. I charge my boost pack from a standard charger since I lost the "correct" charger - make sure it's switched on and hook it up to the charger, you never know!

did you try starting the car with the charger still attached?

This can often blow the fuse if the charger does not have a start assist function

I plugged one in and it started buzzing! A kind of high voltage not good buzz. I am a dangerous fkwit when it comes to this sort of thing.

Would a laptop charger work?
