HI Everyone,

I decided to give my new (to me) Ute a quick service this weekend - change all the fluids and the plugs etc. (nice big box of Royal purple goodies from Monkfish arrived earlier this week - cheers guys!)

I've only got as far as the Engine oil and Gearbox oil today, but have a question about the oil fill level on the gearbox - the Tremec manual ( here) says to fill to the bottom of the filler hole, but I've seen a few posts on the Holden forums saying to then remove the reverse light switch and add another 500 ml of fluid ( e.g here) - what's the general view on this - I'd tend to go with the Tremec advice, but would like to check with the knowledgeable folk on here :-)

Cheers,

Fatboy

Just thought I'd share something I found while fixing the front grill - I hit a rabbit the other week and it took out one of the grill mesh sections, so as I was replacing the mesh I noticed this slightly unconventional towing eye arrangement smile

Where is the towing eye mount normally? I'm thinking I'll tidy this up - seems strong enough - welding is all good, but is it mounted in the right place - should it be off the crossmember behind the bumper?

They don't have a towing eye as standard. If you could re-finish the grill with something to neaten up the edges, I reckon it would look more OE.

Cheers, that would explain it smile - I'm going to replace the grill mesh with some new stuff - it's a bit tatty so easier to replace with new mesh.

I was thinking of modding the eye to be screw-in, so I could have a neater grille, but the eye is handy where it is smile

You could prob buy a new bolt and towing eye or scrapyard it , the gearbox I jacked the passenger side high and then filed the fill hole to max , I know some do the reverse switch I did not want to venture in case it broke , I have had no gearbox issues yet lol

There are no negatives to overfilling as long as none gets chucked out the breather.

Idea is that under hard launch or accel, the input gear can get starved of oil due to oil moving rearwards. So a little extra helps all round

Topped it up today - no issues getting the reverse light switch in and out - bit of an awkward one - needed a 7/8" AF ring spanner and a lot of small turns smile

Cheers Dudes smile

Just to got to change the plugs and fit the kenlowe Hotstart...

She's also off for a full underbody/cavity wax job week after next ( Cumbria Car Storage), will let you know how that goes smile
