I've often wondered if the number plate light on my 2500 is the correct type.

It doesn't fit well in the oval shaped recess in the rear panel but seems to be the type fitted to most 2500s that I've seen photos of.

Photos I've seen of S4 Vixens and presumably late S3s also seem to have this light.

S1s, S2s and 1800Ss seem to have this type fitted.

I'd be grateful if anyone can shed some light on this wink

Thanks,

Chris

Just bought one for Dads.

The XK120 / Jensen 541 / Rover 110 as per the lower pic is the correct one

You will need to modify (deepen) the number plate recess to make the older type light fit on a later car. Does look a lot better though.

That is the correct lamp for that car ...the early cars have the larger version, here is the picture of the recess.

Thanks for all your replies. It's now looking like the change over to the smaller light took place part way through the S3 production run. I had no idea that there are two types of recess. If mine is correct as is then I think I'd best leave it alone. Thanks for your kind offer Andrew, although I prefer the looks of the larger light I don't want to mess with the rear panel (and it will be a mess if I have a go at it!) The smaller light looks very similar to what's fitted to the Granturas. Does anyone know if they are the same?
