I was talking about Audi R8 depreciation with my brother and how I reckon you'll be able to get one for 25k sooner or later. This was countered by having to deal with all of the 'fan bois'. Never been to an Audi meet and no idea what they are like.

You hear allot of talk about bad 'scenes'.

Ferraris = Snobs
Porsche = As above
VW = Stoner Surfers / Boy Racers
Anything Jap = Chav
Jag = Older gentleman

Alway's seems to be allot of generalisations about. I can't comment on any other than the jag one which I've found to be pretty accurate as my dads got an E-Type and goes too all the events with the local club. Mostly older, gentleman with meets in places which do a good real ale and a jaunt to France every year.

Some scenes seem to be regarded as friendly, others not so much.

Want to replace the MX5 with something more interesting and I've found the Lotus and Noble lot to be a really sound bunch and about my age from the forum and more than a bit of stalking. To be fair this is part of the appeal of both brands.

What are other peoples experiences like of the 'scenes', are the stereotypes anything close the the truth?

The TVR guys are great.

The Griff guys are a bit eccentric though

BMW ones are the worst, nobody knows which way anybody is going.

R8's seem to have bottomed out at £40k, might be a longtime till they hit £25k

I generally find the classic Mini and air cooled VW peeps to be the nicest, but you definitely get good and bad in all scenes, just in different forms.

Pack of bogans? hehe

Rallying people are generally good sorts in my experience, had some great yarns with complete strangers on the side of the road watching Escorts slide past.

The best by far are those grown from a level of passion which transcends social constructs and stereotypes. The others aren't worth bothering with.

Personally, I have never been one to adhere to stereotypes, peer pressure or the such like. I had a 1988 Jag XJ6 when I was 20 (1994) simply because it was grand and elegant.

Volvo's always had the reputation of belonging to a slow driving dodder too but I have had 3 Volvo's (850, S70, S80) in my 20's and 30's and I certainly wasn't driving like a Sunday driving undertaker either.

In 1997, I also had a 1961 Rover P4 110, also an older man's classic but I was 23.
Around the same year I also had my 1971 Cortina Custom car, a Mk4 Escort Rally car, Mk2 Granada 2.8i Ghia X Executive, 1981 Mini Cooper, a Fiesta, Mazda 323, MG Metro, Triumph Herald and in the very close years around a '78 Pontiac Firebird, an Eagle SS Kitcar, BMW 735i and so on.

Therefore I feel car choice is mostly individual and stereotypes perhaps are a social invention.
Perhaps Stereotypes are linked to intelligence? Lemming mentality vs individual thinking.
Perhaps stereotypes only exist because the seed of expectation is planted through the power of persuasive and subtle social verbal coercion.

Oh, forgot to add...This I feel perhaps contributes to why a certain type is attracted to a certain car scene. Maybe it is personality dependant. (There are of course exceptions, but I am talking about the group majority). Take from that what you will.. I would not like to assume which level of friendliness is attributed to which car group. Maybe the personalities involved feel a greater connection to those of similar tastes, forming bonds and their level of acceptance is based on that mutual interest making it difficult to accept 'outsiders'. Therefore, once inside the 'circle' acceptance is earned (speed dependant on individuals personality, peer attitudes and social group attributes).
