The man from Mercedes looks pretty befuddled at the result - I'd have loved to have been witness to the call back to Mercedes head office:

Surely the CLS should have sprinted into the distance once it gained traction?

The A45 is stupidly fast in a sprint to 100! From a 30mph rolling start I suspect the CLS may have broke even or maybe even slipped ahead.

The A45 got a great start, the CLS clawed it back and overtook (gaining half a car length) but then something strange happened. Once ahead the CLS should have shown a clean pair of heels to the A45.

The man from Mercedes is obviously surprised, note his expression at 2m37s into the video:

The A45 is programmed to limit the torque available in 1st and 2nd gear. I can only assume the little rocket got its own way once 3rd gear found its feet.

4.1 seconds 0-60 was 911 turbo territory 10 years ago, it is nothing short of amazing how technology has moved the game on.

The gearbox will have given a major advantage I expect - does the CLS still use a torque converter?

I remember driving a 997 C4S GTS and on paper it's not that far off the pace of a 997 turbo, but once driving it was clear to see that it was the lightning fast gearchanges that gave it the headline figures whereas the turbo had immense in gear acceleration.

Only makes me wonder how these (super)hot hatches will be performing in another 10 years time? Can they get any quicker than this?

Showing this video to people who ask me "why did you buy an A class for?" is half of my standard response. The second part of my response is showing them the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvSHUfwveBU from 2.40 secs onwards. Works better than using words.

That CLS has to be broken. This is what should've happened:
