I've been debating running a camera on the bike for a while, so I thought I'd see if I could re-purpose a little Kodak I had lying around for that purpose.

I decided that making it mate to a standard Garmin mount would be the simplest way of going about things - the Garmin mounts are cheap and plentiful, and hold onto the bars very efficiently.

There's a fundamental floor in that mount. Surely the camera is only ever going to point down towards the road.

er, not if you put the mount on the handlebars and point it so it faces forwards?

^Yep, you have total freedom in terms of where to put the Garmin mount on the bar, in this case it's on the "back" of the bars, so that the camera looks out "over" the bar, in the direction of travel.
