iPlayer problem on 2013 Panasonic plasma

For the last few days whenever I try to watch anything on iPlayer it all works as normal, but when the programme starts playing, there is a rotating circle to the foreground as if it is waiting for something. The programme itself plays dimly behind the circle, but the time shows 0.00/0.00 and none of the transport buttons do anything even though it says x2, x4 or whatever.

I have tried unplugging the TV, uninstalling iPlayer (can't be done), updating iPlayer (no updates available), searching the internet, but have no joy at all. TV is wired to the router, programme is playing so no network problems, can watch in using the iplayer app on my tablet.

The only thing I haven't tried is doing a factory reset on the TV but I am understandably reluctant to lose all my settings.

Anybody experienced this or got any suggestions?
