Evening all,

Washing the wife's Astra this afternoon, noticed the bottom part of the windscreen seal/glue is coming away, and has left a small hole allowing a small amount of water ingress. The part coming away is about 15cm long, however the gap letting water in is just under the size of a 5p coin.

What's the best method of repair? Can I fill the gap with some sealant, should I cut away the part which has lifted off and replace it, or is there something better or more appropriate I should use? Hoping I don't have to replace the whole seal.

Performing a search it seems something called silkaflex can be used, however I couldn't find out whether this is designed for complete replacement of the seal, or whether it can simply be used to fill the hole.

Cheers.

I'm assuming the windscreen has not been replaced whilst you've had the car?

Plugging up a leak on a directly glazed windscreen might cure the immediate problem short term, but might not long term. Can you post up a picture of what you can see?

Sikaflex is what screens are bonded in with, and what used to be used to attach bodykits to carious small hatchbacks. It'll be fine for what you want, it's about £5 and ideally get the black waterproof one.

It will stick to your hands like st on a blanket, and if you wear gloves it'll stick them to each other as well, so needs a bit of care. But in terms of sealing up a windscreen it'll be fine.
