Using programme DVD XCopy Platinum to copy new DVDs. If I use DVD +RW it works well. If I use DVD +R doesn't work - I get "Error - read log for details" . Can anyone explain why and how do I read the log. When copying with DVD +RW it starts formatting then writinfg the disc. However with DVD +R it does not say formatting but goes straight to writing the disc. Thanks a lot, hope you can understand my drivel!!

I'm not familiar with that software, but i do use a nice piece of freeware called DVDshrink, the last version was 3.2

easy to use and compatible with anything. If you get stuck give it a go. You will need a copy of Nero to burn the DVD as the software only rips and re-encodes the file.

I too use this very excellent free software,, I sometimes buy DVD's that are not Region 2, and I use DVD Shrink to copy my own DVDs to a region free format, using DVD-Rs, works every time, and that means I can watch them on our very expensive DVD player in the living room, and the proper DVD is used on the bargain basement £25.99 multi region player upstairs!!!

I've never had a problem with plain old DVDXCopy - it has always recorded to +R with no problem. I have a **ahem** trial copy of XCopy Platinum, so if you'd like to e-mail me your activation codes etc, I'll see if I can get it to work

I might try DVDShrink though - sounds like a good freeware product.
