Been looking at R129 500SL`s lately, considering this one.
1992, 90k Miles...

Are the AMG bodyworks desireable, any rust issues etc?

Those early models are thought to have the strongest engines with, I believe, higher BHP outputs than later 500s.

AMG body kits, IMHO, devalue the car slightly, unless part of a dealer/OEM fit upgrade.

Even if in need of a refurb, those wheels are worth +1500 quid. If the car's good, I'd say do it.

Those wheels valuable you say?
Didnt know. I personally like the AMG bodykit in combination with those rims, looks a bit more aggressive than the standard R129 smile

I considered one of those when I was last looking for a car, but decided I wanted something sportier, rather than a cruiser, would still have one in my fantasy garage though.

I read somewhere that the earlier M119s were mounted lower in the chassis or something, is this correct? up to which year? 91-92?

Rust around wheel archs (feel round behind the wheel arch liners often had a cheap repair) and corrosion on the hard top.

Check all the electrics,(then check them again) hood should go up and down smoothly. If the plastic windows have cracked budget £400. Check for damp inside this can effect the electrics.

The body kit is a personal thing, wheels are desirable but I prefer the ride from smaller wheels. The main thing is to look at it and drive it, a well maintained car should drive well and feel tight, solid and quiet. Suspension takes a hammering on these.

Oh and the steering wheel is on the wrong side. wink

Great looking car the R129, but not with that bodykit. Prefer it standard looking with the more common AMG wheels.

To each his own, those wheels are too big imo - look like cartwheels.
