Petrol company car drivers
Discussion
Recently got a Golf (yes I know yawn!) 1.4 TSI ACT as a company car, 5 weeks & 3k miles in it's clear that very few company car drivers opt for petrol (obviously so), so I'm intrigued who has and what do they drive?
This isn't a petrol vs diesel post, that's been done to death, just intrigued if anyone else has gone down the petrol route for their company car, especially if they're doing reasonable miles, and if so what they went for.
Cheers

I kind of do. It's a car provided through the company, but my name gets but on the logbook to avoid company car tax (bit more complicated than that, but that's the general gist of it).
Prior to that scheme, I've taken petrol company cars. Mostly the BIK isn't too bad, at least on more modern petrols. For instance, I had a Golf R which was only about £40 a month more than a GTD. Well worth it IMO.
However, once the diesel 3% abolishment comes in soon and Co2 emissions and percentages change, diesel's and electric will become even cheaper.

Just got an Astra 1400 petrol company car. Main reason being I need a reasonable size car and the max P11D value was set at £15500 making choice limited in mid range cars. Being petrol it was cheaper than diesels so it widened my choices. It's dangerously underpowered, especially when changing lanes on a fast motorway.

Didn't realise they were getting rid of the 3% surcharge, seems odd to me?Prior to that scheme, I've taken petrol company cars. Mostly the BIK isn't too bad, at least on more modern petrols. For instance, I had a Golf R which was only about £40 a month more than a GTD. Well worth it IMO.

As for having a Golf R, superb! I have to be careful as HMRC stipulated rates are so tight I'd end up subbing the company!
I think taking the money if you don't do many miles and or it works for you is a good option. Thing is I've done 3k miles in 5 weeks, albeit that isn't typical, but I wouldn't want to do that in my own car, even if the company funded it.
Talking to our finance manager he opted out simply because on our old scheme he could only have diesel!

Looking at the co car list I have, if I was choosing one right now Id have a Golf R DSG, followed by Golf GTI Perf Pack, then 330d SE. The tax would make my teeth itch, but its worth having these when all the running costs are covered. Did the figures v leasing privately and it wasn't that much more taking into account someone else takes all the cost and risk.

Even with the reasonable Co2 rates on current VW's the BIK would be pretty horrific! That's one good thing about the 1.4TSI, the Co2 is better than the equivalent diesel.Scirocco R for me which did 2,000 business miles last month and does about 20,000 business miles a year.
Not a company car though - rather a car that is (almost) funded via a car allowance.
In no way does it justify itself financially doing what it does i.e. it needs servicing twice a year at £300 a time, does 32mpg at best, costs £265 a year to tax and goes through a full set of tyres every year. I do love it though.

Is this like a nineties assisted purchase scheme? That's how I bought my 968 - very Gareth Cheeseman, but almost a car for free if you do enough miles.I wondered if petrol would creep back into our list at work. When I joined in 06 there was a few petrol cars on there, but not since, with lower co2 now I thought they might be back but as of Aug my policy was all diesel, saying that the CO2 restrictions on job grade are getting harsher :-(

We're lucky, that use to be the case but our new scheme has seen them return, though limited. Talking to one guy he didn't realise this, stating he'd pulled out of the scheme a few years back because it was diesel only. For most though the penalty is still there in my opinion. If we move to fuel cards it could cause a little more pain, but so far I'm loving being back in one.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
