Are these crap?

They came with the Clio Trophy I got recently and they're fine in the dry but they seem to be rather low-grip in the wet. I've had Kumho Ecsta KU31's before and they were decent enough all round but it's very easy to get understeer with these.

As a comparison, taking the same corners/roundabouts in the M5 can be done at the same sort of speed without issue in the wet. That is on Pilot Supersports but given the ~700kg weight difference I didn't think the difference would be so stark.

Anyone have experience of these tyres and made a direct switch to some premium rubber? Pilot Sport 3's are only £70 each so I'm tempted to make the switch when funds allow.

Kumho are rated as a decent mid range tyre. Whether the Solus KH17 is suitable for a performance hatch is maybe debatable given these reviews :

Yeah I'd read them before, just didn't expect such a stark contrast given they're not exactly budget.

They're not crap, but there is no way they should be on a Clio trophy - Kumho wise a hot clio should be on Kumho Ecsta - Solus really are for your run of the mill type cars, focuses and astras etc - good tyre, but not a high performance tyre

My Kumho experiences:

- kh17 (14 inch on a mk1 fabia) - acerage at best

- kh39 (18 inch on civic type r) - pretty good for the money

I would be changing as soon as money allows if I were you.
