Check it out, driving tonight in my M135i (leased on the cheap rate deal - PH forever!) and I turned left pretty slowly and heard a thud - a bit like something had fallen off the back seat or moved in the boot. Door open light comes on on the dash so I stop round the corner to see whats happened.

The rear door behind me was ajar. I tried to pull it completely open to slam it shut again, but it wouldn't move as it was locked. Quickly opened the door lock button and opened/slammed the door shut again. Drove home no more problems. Thinking back on it the last time I opened the door was yesterday to get something out. So it's had approx 24 hours of being closed, 4 journeys in that time and then opens by itself, although not fully cos it was actually locked.

Anyone else had this before or is it a freak occurrence that I need to inform the dealer of?

Thanks in advance…..!

Could something have been caught between the door and the seal or something? So when the car unlocked when the key is removed the door could have come open a little, then re-locked in an ajar position?

I left the sun roof open a bit on my car overnight. I can't believe I neither called the dealer, nor posted here.

Thanks for that, really appreciate it.

Course I didn't leave something open, like yourself. It was closed and then appeared rather alarmingly to open by itself. Never ever having had this in a car before I got rather surprised and thought i'd ask to see if anyone else had this happen.

The worrying thing being that had the door not been locked it may well have swung open which depending on what was on the back seats or driving the other way may well have been a problem.

Possible. But then I imagine door open warning would have been on, but it only came on after the thud.

My apologies, it was my humour at your expense. I am at heart a cheeky chappy - which can slip into rudeness. I guess given there could have been kids in the back its probably not so silly to worry about it.

If it has only happened the once and everything appears OK, I personally wouldn't worry. but then I rarely own cars under 15 years old, so this has given me a rather different perspective to many. the doors and windows on my 2CV would occasionally demonstrate a level of self determination and I regarded it as all part of the rich experience that resulted from paying only £100 for a car. The sun roof on the Alfa would only stay closed up to about 90mph. It was a good way to ensure that one didn't creep into licence losing territory, as a wasbasto suddenly self opening was hard to overlook.
