Not sure if people are aware (I wasn't) so I thought I'd bring this up here to hopefully save some folks from some potential pain

CNET report

I only started to look at this when I noticed that my PS4 had seemingly turned itself off after I left it in standby / rest mode last night in order to charge the controller. Fortunately, I've not had to hard reboot the machine or suffered from data loss but I'd hate for anyone to lose all that hard work in Destiny* frown

Also reported here

Just make sure you turn the machine off fully and don't use standby for the time being until they patch it seems to be the message and workaround

Go into your account settings and you'll probably see a note saying that your e-mail address needs to be verified. Go through that and they'll e-mail you a link to verify your account and this will fix that problem. Has for me.

I performed the update last night left it in standby/rest mode the orange light came on fine...This morning no orange light I was a bit confused but thought nothing of it but this explains that, hopefully my consol is ok when I get home and I haven't lost any of my saved game data I will be pissed.

As I mentioned above, check the account settings, there was something they've added to this latest build that requires it for a lot of accounts. There's a way of accessing what the PS4 is doing as it sits there in rest mode via a mode on your TV and it's trying to register something with the account, but is unable to because your e-mail address apparently isn't verified.

Today is literally the first time I've used rest mode as I wanted my headset charged for when I got home.

Been using a phone charger to re-energise the controller. Glad i haven't used rest mode in this instance. Having trouble with the disc ejecting at random intervals but that's it.

edit

forgot to say thanks for the heads up as wellwavey

You're welcome guys and I wouldn't panic if you've used the rest mode - I've used it a handful of times since the update and it has been OK so far, but I won't be using it again in light of this information

Steve E - checked my account settings / notifications, etc and couldn't find anything asking me to validate my e-mail address, so for me at least that isn't the answer - I'll wait for the patch

This might explain what happened to mine madmad

Shut down into rest mode last week, wouldn't restart. I eventually got it to boot into safe mode and had to reinstall the OS, losing all my game data!!

Did the update then left the ps4 on to download the new cod and it went into rest mode. I also put it into rest mode to charge my pad and it came back on fine, but il not be using rest mode again until it's patched. Thanks for the heads up.

Yes, patch is now out as I've just installed it on the machine, still not putting it in rest mode for a while though smile
