I (re)submitted an advert recently for a car that I'd advertised before, but the sale fell through.

It went to "awaiting moderation" status, and then a couple of days later I received an email saying that the advert had been removed because it was a "trade advert listed as private". It's not, it's a private advert listed as private.

What I really liked was that in the email it says to reply with the advert reference number if I have a query. Except I can't, because you deleted the advert, and don't include the reference number in the email you sent me.

So I sent a reply anyway, and got the auto-generated email response saying you'll get to it when you can, yada yada yada. In that is a link to the Classifieds FAQ - I know, I'll check in there to see what the rules are about how many private adverts you can submit. Surprise surprise, the link doesn't work.

As it stands I have no advert, no advert reference number, no link to the Classifieds FAQ (I had a look within the Classifieds section, but couldn't see it) and as yet no response to my email.

The last time I submitted this advert it was left in "awaiting moderation" for a few days until someone made it live, and I got a message saying that future adverts wouldn't get caught in this process - that obviously hasn't worked out.

All a bit shonky, eh chaps.

Sorry that you're having issues, I'm not sure why this is, how many cars have you tried to advertise?

I've asked someone to look into this for you.

Email received. Contains some info that, as far as I can tell, isn't listed anywhere else, so I'll put it here in case it helps other people:

email said:
Unfortunately you received this message because your account has exceeded the limit that private advertisers are allowed to submit to the site. The issue we had previously was a bug which has now been fixed thankfully. However, our system is set to remove adverts which go over the limit. You are allowed 3 cars within 3 months and a total of 6 ads per year.

We can allow some leeway when it comes to those who strip their car for parts, however please be aware that advertising more than 3 cars within a year is generally seen as trade
I've not found mention anywhere on the site to a limit for private adverts, so it was news to me.

Talking of free service, how does one get the privilege of advertising a car free of charge? I thought I had 'served' long enough to get this perk but tried to advertise a car the other week and there was no free option?

I'm not too ofay (sic) on the free rules but if you email adverts@pistonheads.com they will be able to confirm. I don't think the mention of a free ad appears until the end of the ad upload process but I'm not 100% sure.

It is a fair point and we will look into if this can be displayed better... but this is something advised by Trading Standards, so would apply across the board for buying and selling cars (especially when there could be profit involved) on any site.

Ah ok no problem, I thought I read that it was a rolling date set at 'x' years membership but I must have misunderstood!

Profit....I'm sure I've heard the word before, but I forget what it means!

Would be worth updating the email confirmation you send out when an advert is submitted to have a working link to the FAQ, and to have a link to the FAQ on the site somewhere (as said, I looked but couldn't find it).
