Whisky appreciation

My brother and I bought each other a bottle of 1979 St magdalenes single malt whisky for our 21st's around 10 years ago. We just googled to see how much they are worth now. We paid under £100 for the bottles. Sometimes investments pay off

It was going to be drunk when I got married or some other big occasion but I think it will now be kept as an investment nest egg now.

Try selling them, and see what you get offered.

Limited releases or closed distilleries, from about 5 years ago.

I just bought a Jura Brooklyn. Limited numbers by all accounts, cant see it being worth a lot but ill tuck it away

Things like Port Ellen have acquired a cult status as the distillery has closed, and prices currently reflect that. Plenty of others too, but are they really worth the price tag? Debatable IMO.

To be honest I think so many people have hoarded whisky in the last few years, everyone seems to think they'll make money on it. Snow Phoenix is a good example. Relatively small numbers, but they appear in almost every whisky auction. The shame being they do the rounds, and what is an enjoyable £60 dram is changing hands at circa £200.

I can't see it being sustainable, but if the market crashes at least you can drink it!
