Does anyone know what the two USB ports on the front of my PS2 are for? Are they just for USB controllers or can I hook it up to my PC and do some funky stuff with it?

Also what’s the other port marked i-5400 next to them. Fire wire maybe?

Sure they probably have hundreds of uses but I have used my PS2 USB ports for three purposes: The G-CON Light Guns for arcade perfect time-crisis 3, the eyetoy webcam thing and the singstar karoake game's two microphones!

Actually seeing as they are USB input sockets (i.e. flat and wide) like the one's in my PC rather than output sockets (i.e. sort of square) like the ones in my printer, camera and other devices then I assume it's to drive peripherals like the ones you mention rather than to connect to another PC.

P.S. Sorry for the poor USB terminology

You get a headset with SOCOM/SOCOM 2 which plugs into the USB port and lets you speak to other people in the game

Also you can plug in a USB keyboard and use it if the game supports it (SOCOM again allowed you to type in the chat mode between games)
