60mph on the m25 and smack!

Ran over a brick I reckon, front right took the impact. Pulled over, no puncture or obvious wheel damaged. Limped the last couple of miles home. There's now a noise. Nothing at town speeds but at 50mph+ sort of white noise, sort of a roar. Also the noise slowly fluctuates up and down. Fluctuates faster if I go faster.

Got home and changed all 4 wheels / tyres to the winter set. Quick run and same noise. No wobbles, brakes fine, cornering doesn't change the noise.

What do we reckon?

Wind noise from the massive hole that must now be in your bumper? Or those plastic linings flapping around?

Would be interested to see any pics if you have them, not for any real reason but more to see what happens as I have wondered what it could do.

It's s good call, but no obvious bumper damage. When the wheels were off I had a quick look with torch and no inner liners flapping around. But then Id been in the car for 2.5 hrs, it was dark and pissing with rain - so I did all 4 wheels as quick as I could!

Got a feeling it could be a wheel bearing. Not had one go before, what are the symptoms?

Possibly borked your wheel bearing?

I'd go with wheels bearing too.

I was thinking the same

Perhaps try jacking it up and spinning the wheel, see if there a rumble

As above, could well be your bearings - normally sound like a gritty/grindy/whooshy noise. Also, checked your disc sheild? Has the knock bent it and making contact with the inside of your disc?

Err...Have a look under the right hand side and check for damage instead of asking on a forum? wink

It could be any number of things and best to look for yourself. Unlikely to be a wheel bearing unless the wheel took the force laterally i.e. while you were turning. It's probably resonance in an undertray or panel caused by the air passing over the new dented/damaged shape.

Possibly a fragment of the brick rubbing on the brake disc?

I Had a small gravel chipping lodge between the caliper and disc. Gave exactly the symptoms you describe...

Sorry. Was going to recommend a good proctologist.

Thought you'd missed an "s" off the front of title.

Check for damage inboard on the tyre, also possible shock absorber damage.
