Well I've driven both and I'd have PAS over a manual rack every time, and not just for the substantially easier low speed maneuverability. The PAS rack is the faster geared rack of the two, that combined with zero loss of feel compared with the manual rack and PAS is actually the sportier choice.
Having driven both, my experience is the PAS rack gives the Chimaera a sharper feel at the wheel and allows faster corrections, the fact it turns parking from painful to a piece of cake is just a nice bonus.
Horses for courses and all that, but personally I would never remove my PAS to replace it with the slower manual rack.
Just my opinion you understand, but is based on having extensively driven both options
I fitted PS to my chim several years ago and it was a revelation.
It developed a bit of play and having a week off with a Ring trip planed I foolishly fitted the manual rack the day before setting out.
The weather was fantastic, the a Ring brilliant and we clocked up about 1,500 miles in the week.
I can honestly say that every driving moment I regretted fitting the manual rack. I had more feel in my 1965 Austin 1100!
On the plus side, if you want to loose weight and do track days you'll be onto a winner. I reckon you'll loose about half a pound a session, downside is you'll be sweating like a pig.
