Hi All,

I'm a newbie to this forum, aswell as to Piston Heads.

I've just bought a 2013 1 Series Sport with run flat tyres for my local BMW dealer. Whilst inspecting the boot, I noticed that the boot didn't have a standard jack and tyre kit and when I put this forward to the salesman, he just replied that, 'it has runflats, which don't require a jack'. I found this answer really bizarre. Can someone please clarify why it doesn't have a jack or if this is a weird answer.

Regards,

Haz

The car doesn't need a jack as you can cover upto a 100 miles under 50mph to a safe place or dealership or tyre centre to sort

SS2.

The idea is that you don't swap the wheels & tyres yourself, so no need for a jack - runflats are designed to be driven (at a reduced speed and for a limited distance) to enable you to get to your nearest Kwik Fit or similar.

No jack with my E61 or Z4. I bought a spacesaver and tool kit for the E61 when I ditched the runflats.

BL/Dunlop tried runflats in the 70s, but because they weren't German no-one wanted them.
