Hi all

I have a 2010 V8V Manual. I bought it about a month ago.

I've noticed a strange noise when pulling away slowly in 1st gear or when crawling in traffic. Initially I thought it was vibration of a heat shield or exhaust, but I'm not sure now.

The noise is like a creaking door hinge with a bit of grinding. It goes as soon as you give some throttle but if you're crawling in traffic at the point between stalling and giving some, the sound is continuous.

It sounds like it's coming for the rear.

Any ideas? Is this normal?

I think we all experience this, and in the early stage of ownership, an understandable concern.
It is said to be something to do with the carbon fibre prop. shaft.

After three years of ownership I still do not like hearing this sound, because one cannot help feeling some harm is being caused, so if possibe I accelerate or change to 2nd gear.

I too would like to know how these sounds are actually being created, so hopefully some of our engineering members can explain.

The V8 has a carbon fibre prop? I didn't know that - would also be interested on the details.

The handbrake pads can cause some odd noises at low speed, particularly in cornering.

I think it is this and indeed unnerving but normal and something to do with drivetrain prop shaft slack or something I am not really sure. I aksed a dealer about it today funny enough (but not exactly what caused it just whether it was normal which it is)

Prop shaft slack..... maybe that explains the thud you sometimes get, when changing up gears? or maybe it just my terrible driving skills.

I also get this in 2nd gear. Learning to drive around it!
