the current policy will have 11 years no claims discount/ bonus on it which is about to be due for renewal, however i've sold my car and don't have a replacement car to use the no claims discount on at the moment. Is there a time guide before the NCD/ NCB expire if not used?

Normally 2 years but best to check with the individual company.

Yes, two years. My last insurer had me (unbeknownst to me) on a classic policy on my daily runabout, for nearly two years. When this came to light I had days left to to get insured on a car I had not yet decided on buying (or even what it would be), to retain my long standing NCB.

Churchill also 2 years. We just sold the wife's car so we have to change each year who is named and who is policy holder on our 1 remaining car.

Churchill told me three years if you go back with them or two years if you are changing from another company.

Thanks

How do you prove ncd, do you have to get a written letter from previous insurer?

Just to reinforce others, it was two years for me. I was banned from driving for 18 months (medical condition) and all the insurers I contacted at the time said two years.

I've also always understood that it is 2 years.
