£20 to fix a puncture on a push bike

I could fix a puncture on my bike when I was about 8 .... but it seems my London based friend didn't and is planning to take it into a bike shop who will relieve her of £20.

I am staggered that
a) she doesn't know how to do this herself
b) that it will cost £20

I know wages, shop overheads etc. but still - £20!

I'm in the wrong job.

I once had a colleague ask why I didn't go to a garage to change a headlight bulb on the car. This was back when you only needed a screwdriver and ten minutes....

Some people are just unable/unwilling to learn how to do anything remotely handy, and there are folk ready to exploit that

I had a puncture repaired on my motorbike rear tyre earlier today (not in London mind) - it cost a tenner (wheel removed, but still had to have tyre off rim, rebalanced etc.).

Bike shops do not repair punctures, they replace the inner tube

Basic inner tube is around £6. The rest is labour, overheads, profit

Was charged £25 by Kwikfit to fix a puncture on my car earlier this year.

Got home afterwards and realised that my service plan covers free puncture repairs at Kwikfit.




Wife called it 'beinganidiotandnotcheckingpaperworkbeforehand' tax.

You can usually fix a bicycle puncture with your bare hands and a bit of glue and a patch! FFS!

It's a 15 minute job, even quicker if you just replace the tube.
A fiver plus a couple of quid for a new tube.

Still - earning £80 per hour at a bike shop ain't bad.
Clearly, I too am in the wrong job.
