Cayman GTS Manual or PDK
Discussion
I've tried both. Close call, but went for PDK in the end, (car being built as we speak,, hopefully!)
PDK gives me the option to let the car take the strain in heavy stop/start traffic. It also makes the car quicker during hard acceleration, (useful when you haven't got massive power on tap). Its also a lower co2 group.
I guess you can't over rev the engine with PDK. Although I stand to be corrected on that last point if someone knows better?

That's going to be decided by how you intend to use the car
I use mine for the daily commute and not likely to find itself on a track. So I went for the PDK, it's utterly brilliant and makes the cars' power accessible to even the most average of drivers, like me
But if you're going for sports chassis, bucket seats, PTV and such like, then maybe the manual would be more appropriate. The manual gearbox is very slick by all accounts. A driver with the right skills will probably get more out of a gearbox they can control completely
The 981 is a brilliant car, I'm sure you'll love it

As has already been said - its down to your own personal preference - try both.
I had PDK is my 997 GTS - I initially ordered my Cayman GTS with PDK - but then thought I'd like a manual, as historically I love them.
I took a Boxster S Manual out - and didn't really click with it - yeah the shift was pretty good - but the ratios just seems to sap/dull the performance.
PDK has better ratios, shifts faster - delivers better performance and better economy as a side effect.
The modes - sport and sport plus are great when it's left to its own devices and obviously your in control when in manual mode.
Try them both, then go from there.

This is what makes it so tough as Sutcliffe drives both and loves them both.
Is manual better on track that PDK in reality given the GT3 is now only PDK and quicker than a manual would be ?
Maybe manual with auto blip is a good compromise....
Who knows as you say its personal.
Have to say at the mo I think the GTS is a great car

The key word there is 'better' and your definition of that in terms of gearbox choice. Is manual better on track that PDK in reality given the GT3 is now only PDK and quicker than a manual would be ?

Did Van Gogh paint a better picture than Picasso?
As a pure weekend/special occasion car I'd go manual.
But I wouldn't go 981.
As a modern urban daily driver, 981 PDK is a very good piece of kit. Ironically, the manual box is very good too, only you can decide!

Climbing hill, engine screaming. Over blind crest, kink to the left... HARD on the brakes, roll heel to the right, blip throttle to 3rd gear, exhaust note barks briefly, blip to 2nd gear, another exhaust bark, off brakes, turn into tight right hander, hard on throttle heading back down hill... Grab 3rd just after 7000rpm. Perfect heel and toe, ultimate drivers satisfaction... BIG GRIN..
I did that, .. Not the ECU.
MANUAL all the way
