Vantage S Alloy Wheel Refurb
Discussion
Bit of advice please.
I have the V spoke diamond turned wheels with the graphite interiors. Had a wheel damaged by a dealer which to their credit they had refurbed, however the colour match was poor and so they again to their credit provided a new wheel but again the colour match is poor.
They are suggesting that their body shop can colour match the wheel to the others but I am assuming that the wheels are powder coated for longevity rather than a straight paint finish. Is this the case or are they just painted in which case their solution should be fine.

I've just had all 4 of my diamond cut bmw alloys refurbished and I wanted a slight deeper graphite colour so I picked from a chart.. Ironically it was an Audi colour and looks great. The point though is that refurbish back to factory may not match the others as the others are no longer factory and having looked at 20 different samples to pick a finish the tone, depth, amount and colour of sparkle make matching for a whole wheel difficult in my opinion even if you can get close enough for a touch up. My V8S has the graphite finish and in different light and angles the colour changes massively.
So if they've all been refurbed in the past, getting them all done together might be the only sure way to get a match.

Thanks for the replies gents. I am happy for them to refurb them all I guess my poorly put question was more along the lines of will the paint finish from their body shop be good enough to last by comparison to them being powder coated which is the finish I am used to on refurbed wheels.

How was the Rimstock refurb, was it worth the cost and time taken, were they as brand new?
The finish was quite literally like it came out of the factory. Which, in essence, they have. I think that they just put the wheels to be refurbed back into manufacturing process. What the Refurbishment Manager, Mike Preece, did point out was that AM have slightly changed the colour specs on the wheels over the years. So in order to get them all exactly the same colour you will obviously need to get all four done at the same time.
Timings were okay, within a couple of weeks, I think. Price was £93(+VAT) for each wheel. So £112 each.

Mine where exactly the same wheels and the diamond turned surface started to cloud up in places
Out of warranty now

So I've powder coated them all one colour, a dark smoked chrome (a bit too dark
)Cheers Mike
Always assumed they would be more than a standard paint finish, wouldn't have thought they would stand up to the aggressive brake dust without a protective coating of some description.
They are looking into the various options so will see what they come up with. A set of lightweights at a good price would be nice.

The only protection is a clear lacquer over the paint and diamond cut surface, which doesn't stand up well Always assumed they would be more than a standard paint finish, wouldn't have thought they would stand up to the aggressive brake dust without a protective coating of some description.
