So, I'm the ripe old age of 35. Dodgy Manchester postcode. 14 years NCB. No claims in the past. 3 points on an SP30 three years ago.

I've previously had high insurance group motors. More recently had a Porsche 996 C4s for which I was paying around £700. That was including my partner who is slightly older than me but hasn't driven since she was 17. Funnily enough, having her on my policy saves me between £100 - £200 each year.

Anyway, I digress. Having sold the Porsche, I transferred the Alfa 147 daily driver to the main policy. This policy expires mid December.

I'm looking at getting into an Audi S8 V10 after having an S6 in the past. Anyway, having got a fresh quote from my current insurers the fully comp quote comes out at ...

£365!!!!

Jesus wept this is the cheapest insurance quote I've ever had and gives me more impetus to buy an S8 sooner rather than later!

That's not you being old, that's you chopping in a sports car for a limo.

Aged 18, I swapped a Corsa for a Jag XJ6. My insurers gave me a thousand pound rebate.

Simon.

I suppose you're right. The S8 still has sports car performance though. 450 bhp and 0-60 in 5.1 seconds. A shade faster and more powerful than the 996 it replaced.

They're probably seeing the chances of a 996 going AWOL in the middle of the night as higher than the chances of you wrapping either.

Yup - F Type S was only £370 ... despite writing off an XK only a year earlier and a rear end accident the year before. Puzzling but not complaining smile

25 here, insurance quotes coming in at ~£400 for a Mk5 Golf GTI. Certainly a pleasant change from a few years back. I once paid £1700 for a years policy frown.

350Z was £250, only a years NCD and that has legal protection, an extra £30, so possible for me to insure it for £220.

Galaxy came down a lot, could get it for £179 but the missus got involved and insisted on Legal protection and personal accident, taking it to £224, my missus loves insuring stuff, whacks it all on, but wont ever pay for any of it !

Although inflation being what it is, mine have gone up over the years faster than they've come down because of me getting older so I now pay more at 52 to insure a 1.2 Punto than I did a Mk 1 Escort when I was 19 and more to insure an Alfa 75 Twinspark now than I did to insure an Alfa 2000 GTV when I was 25. When I was 22 I paid a piffling £180 to insure a modified Chevy Camaro.

Of course, in 1984 that £180 would've bought a lot more beer than it does now.
