If he's happy to take the car without the V5 etc, you could simply forward all the paperwork once the plate is removed. You used to be able to go to a local DVLA office and do the paperwork, but now you have to do it all by post. It usually takes a couple of weeks.

I sent the paperwork off to do a transfer on Saturday, and got the new docs back today. So less than a week.

you will get a green slip and new mot/tax disk in less than 2 weeks but it can take 3-6 weeks to get a new V5 (which you will need to sell the car).

If you sell it with just the v5C you will be liable to any speeding/parking tickets your buyer gets until you get the V5 from DVLA and send of with his details.

Read the various other threads on this subject over the last couple of weeks, do not part with the vehicle until you are in possession of the V5C with the replacement number.

It took less than a week to get our cherished plate transferred off and onto retention

Why oh why do people put their car up for sale before removing their plate? Its common sense people!

Hopefully it'll get removed before the sale goes through, op.

Okay well that's good news then.

Once the original plate is back on, can I sell the car? As the new log book will take few weeks to come. The buyer is happy to buy without a log book and I send it all when it arrives from my side.
Log books are usually a week or so as well
