Hey all,

What started off as a heating issue, has boiled down to (get it?!....I know, I'm sorry) a coolant leak issue... (the low coolant meant my heating wasn't working properly).

Looks like my radiator is having trouble keeping all that coolant in....

What this unfortunately means is that my first purchase from the fish is going to be a replacement...(I'd hoped it would be for something that would put a big grin on my face)

frown

Anyway, I came across this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vauxhall-Monaro-Performa...

and a link to where it comes from (with a very cheesy video if you're interested!):

http://www.prospeedracing.com.au/products/Mishimot...

Has anyone tried it? or have any thoughts on it? Or should I just stick with the good ol' fish?

Cheers,

StuRo

I think the Mishimoto rads are notorious for requiring that lifetime guarantee!

Haha! 'nuff said. There's nothing in it price wise, so if they're nothing special I'll leave it.

Thanks mate.

Seems almost a yearly occurrence on my vxr monaro. ... Coolant loss. Checked coolant level last week and id lost a good half a litre, no obvious signs so, replaced rad cap and all is well. Seems almost a serviceable item this rad cap? Thankfully MF have plenty in stock, so got two this time.

Sounds like those rad caps are a nightmare! (at least they're cheap!) I don't have one since it's the 04 CV8... just an expansion tank... you'd think they'd put more effort in to the cooling system since it's come all the way from down under!

I just hope it doesn't take too long to get a new rad delivered.. she's my daily driver! i miss it already... is that sad? boxedin

One of the benefits of an '04 model car. smile Had to replace the rad on my vxr and decided to splash out and get a Ron Davis one from the states. Cost a fair bit but is an impressive item. Shame it's covered up by the plastic cover really. biggrin

I got stuck on the road last February with a busted Mishimoto hose. As stated in an above post, Mishimoto seems to need that lifetime warranty.
They sent a new hose kit and life went on. Summer came, and I magically received a 42% off coupon from said company for a future purchase. An apology for the broken hose, they said. I took the bait, and purchased their '04 GTO radiator. Next spring, it will get installed, as I am presently swamped by the task of packing and moving. I hope that the new radiator is not a mistake. It sure is pretty, though. All shiny and glittery.
My presently-installed radiator is a 2-year-old genuine GM replacement, and while not leaking, it does lose a few spoonsful of coolant per month.

Got the same issue on my CV8. Have contacted AAS about a Griffin one and also looking at custom options.
For now she's SORNd and tucked up in the garage on the trickle charger til the New Year, so will get it sorted then.
Everything I've read about the Mishimoto rads is that the guarantee gets well used!

notransistors,

All the best with that rad then mate, I hope it serves you well. They do look pretty, I'm with you on that! biggrin
I'm hoping that a genuine replacement should do another 70,000 miles (which I'd like to think I'll see the best part of!)
those Mishimoto ones at least look like they might be a bit more robust since they're all Ally? rather than a replacement GM part which looks like it has the same plastic ends that are just going to crack again? or have they gone to some lengths to resolve the issue...? I'm a bit skeptical...

fletch78,

good luck sorting yours. I'm starting to wish I had: a) somewhere to tuck her in and b) alternative transport while she stayed cosy!

Still...I love it too much. I'd only get itchy feet if she was all tucked up anyway! biggrin

Thanks.
The GTO is my only car, which is stupid. After I get settled into my new home, I may buy a cheap every-day car. I worry about taking her out in snow and ice and road salt. I used to bring a garden hose up from the basement, connected to the work-sink faucet, and clean the salt off the underside and wheel wells using hot water [of course], after a winter ride. I will not have this luxury in the new house. Cold water from a hose would freeze in the short driveway, and create a hazard.
