Hello just bought a lovely VXR8! Have heard this site is good for giving advice so thought I'd ask on here.

On the way home I had a look at those cool gauges and noticed the oil pressure gauge sits just past 5 all the time, even at idle. What could this be? Also I got the "check engine" icon come up and wont go away (not flashing) I've had a look about on the forums and it seems like it could be the O2 sensor? What do you think? How much are these?

Forgot to mention. Oil temp sits at 110 which is normal? Water temp etc seem fine also. Car drives fine

Roger at MF gave me some useful info about pressure and temperature but i can't remember which way round it was, hopefully he will be along.

Pressure shouldn't be as high as 5 all the time i don't think.

When cold your oil pressure should probably sit around 3 at idle, this goes up to about 3.5 when driving.

When up to temp the pressure drops a little, maybe 2 or 2.5 at idle and 3 when driving.

I'm not a mechanic but I doubt if your oil pressure is actually 5 all the time. More than likely some sort of oil sender failure. That said, I wouldn't drive the car until I can get it looked at just incase.

Well I noticed the gauge minutes after I bought it, the engine light come on about an hour down the road. Took me 6 hours to get home and car seemed to drive fine, all other gauges and temps never rised. Is taking to vauxhall a no no? Does it sound expensive? Also are all vxr8 gearboxes stiff?

Engine warning light is a worry, was it doing it all te time?

Vauxhall would be a big no no take it to MF, walkinshaw or Neil Johnson to have any codes read or even a forum member.

Gearbox shouldn't be stiff selection should be quite smooth, what do you mean stiff.

Was this private or from a dealer?

Check engine come up and stayed there all the time. Gearbox feels heavy, hard to explain but you have to use a little strength to change gear. Maybe I'm just not used to it?

It should feel more precise no strenght is really required.

I would say that if you're used to smaller, fwd cars then the gearbox could indeed feel heavy and clunky. It's not exactly refined.....

I'd be more concerned by the oil pressure and check engine light.

Ref Vauxhall depends where you. Took our VXR Ro to Picadors In Southampton and they read the codes and fixed it, didn't cost a lot. Gearboxs and clutch do seem heavy compared to other cars but don't require strength, doesn't sound right. If cars been sat for ages maybe just needs a good drive?.

The check engine light has just gone off? So it's just the oil pressure to get checked. Maybe still check for codes just incase?
