Quick DB9 vs V8V running cost query
Discussion
In the simplest terms what sort of order of magnitude more are the running costs of a DB9 than a V8V?
I'm in the process of selling my Exige and I also have a quattroporte that I am likely to sell. The Exige, as wonderful as it was, simply wasn't getting used so somehting more usable is required. The QP is great and I'm still in two minds on whether to sell it or not. Having never had an Aston but having come close a few times this might well then be the time. A V8V would be more "sporty" *shudder* to drive and probably close to what I'm after but the DB9 does have those (however tiny) back seats which would mean it would more easily replace the QP for when me, the wife and the dog want to travel. Like a loon I may even put a bike in it every now and again which I know is doable in a V8V thanks to the hatch and particularly if travelling solo.
The DB9 would also tick that V12 box so I am just wondering whether that aspect really ratchets up the running costs?

Ta, I've driven a few V8Vs but never even sat in a DB9. I shall have to go and have a look as you say (oddly a place just up the road currently has a manual one), are they really that bad? Ah well, that probably pushes me closer to the V8V which was winning anyway.
Annoyingly a Maser GT has (sort) of usable back seats given that it's based on the QP platform (result is that they always look too long in the wheelbase). Its another one on the list but I want to stay British this time (no, I'm not suggesting a Bentley, don't worry!). Evoras have a nice flat bench the dog goes on happily and people have got bikes in them but I've "done" Lotus x4 so want something different. Grrrr.

The Maser GT is the better car(you have no idea how much it pains me to say that) having had both at the same time & having both of them again now length wise they are almost Identical looks wise the DB9 looks better & is viewed as the better car.Annoyingly a Maser GT has (sort) of usable back seats given that it's based on the QP platform (result is that they always look too long in the wheelbase). But when it comes down to which one I use the most the GT wins by a mile in the three weeks I've had both I've used the DB9 three times
the GT lost count, also my girlfriend has a nine year old & you can't use the Aston if you want to take more than one person.
It's about personal choice so take your pick I'd go GT but it depends on what you're looking for.
I've had two V8V's a DB9 and now a DBS too. Summary; if you can afford to buy and run a V8V, then you can afford a 9.
These cars are rock solid. Nothing but a few bushes and a wheel bearing etc have gone wrong for me in 4 Gaydon cars. Stuff I could have fixed myself if I had the time or wanted to get my hands dirty....
The 4.3 and 4.7 cost the same to run. 4.7 maybe a little better on fuel. The DB9 cost about £400 a year more in maintenance and stuff than the 8.
You have 4 extra plugs to buy for some services. Plug changes on an 8 are a piece of urine, DB9's need a manifold removal job. Other work (if no warranty) such as fuel sender replacement on an 8 is a carpet up job, on a 9 its a major disassembly.
General costs, as above. No warranty on the cars and factor in a bit more. The 9 is the same as the 4.3 on fuel.
DBS could cost a kidney and it would still be worth it.

Would you say that about a Vanquish over the DBS?These cars are rock solid. Nothing but a few bushes and a wheel bearing etc have gone wrong for me in 4 Gaydon cars. Stuff I could have fixed myself if I had the time or wanted to get my hands dirty....

Thanks all, some things to ponder there; including maybe revisiting a Maserati GT, hmmm. Encouraging that the 9 is not drastically more than a V8V and that a job may be easy on one but a pain on the other and vice versa. All things considered I imagine that I'd still be exposed to less cost either way than running the Exige and QP together.
A Rapide I hadn't thought of oddly but one thing stopping me there will be cost, I'd like to keep this venture sub £50k as in part it's a small amount of economising, however daft buying an Aston as a means of saving money might sound.
