Great restaurants in Paris

So we'll be down in Paris for our wedding anniversary. We had our honeymoon there but with our budget back then top restaurants weren't on the cards but dinner on the Eiffel Tower was a great experience for us in our young days!


So many years later we revisiting but this time can afford a little better!
Now for us it's not the price or 'swankiness' of the place that makes a great night.
Don't care for snooty waiters but know that it's goes with the territory here!
Not big wine drinkers.
Love great unpretentious food.
Living in Greece for a few years really opened my eyes to finding great food in unpretentious places.
The food is important but also the atmosphere of a place.
Given that it is Paris somewhere with views would be great (but I also know that places with views often trade on that fact and not actually great at good or atmosphere).

So hopefully some of you out there have similar tastes and come across a nice place?

Anywhere fairly central is fine, we staying in the Latin Quarter.

I really can't help with 'unpretentious' restaurants, simply because I can't remember the names or locations of the ones I have eaten in, but as for pretentious, I really liked Ciel de Paris.

I mean, who doesn't like sitting eating dinner whilst looking over the Eiffel tower? Especially during the winter as it is all beautifully lit up at night

Bit out of the centre but my favourite restaurant is l'Auberge Aveyronnaise in Bercy. This is going to sound strange but their cheesey mash (Aligot) with a country sausage is the house speciality and simply fantastic, all very traditional Frency country styling and food.

L'Avant-Comptoir was the best, and cheapest, meal we had in Paris this year. It's effectively Franch Tapas, standing only with a huge selection of open wines. It is very relaxed and friendly.

21 (21 Rue Mazarine) is a great Fish Restaurant. The patron is a French chap who spent a lot of time in the UK and it is very informal but the prices are quite high.

We also ate at 114 Faubourg in the Bristol Hotel and the food was fantastic but we awere treated quite indifferently after an hour or so when it became clear that we were not ordering painfully expensive wines.

If you like Oysters then La Cabane (46 Rue Dauphine) is very good and unpretentious. Friendly service and good wine for not much money. The restaurant is very small though.

Paris is great but the cost of eating out can be silly.

I'm a huge fan of J'go - they have two restaurants, one in central Paris and one in St. Germain.

Its Toulouse-style roast meats and wines. Think huge chops, roast beef, home-made sausages etc and a big selection of Bordeaux.

I found Bulldong's post in this thread really useful. Chez Gladines and L'Entrecote Relais de Venise were both great.
