Currently living in a rented "new build" flat in what should be a nice part of town. The flat block has a shared underground car park, access is via the internal lift or through the gate which you need a remote to raise.

I know someone in a different building round the corner, who had their mx5 window smashed and someone had smashed apart the ignition block about a month ago. Obviously he was fuming.

Went down on Saturday morning to find an 09 plate Honda Civic had the passenger window smashed in, with a bag of rocks lying on the floor.

Went back tonight and saw that there were 2 other cars which had cardboard where (presumably!) there used to be a glass window.

There are around 30 cars in the car park. I know I am being paranoid, but can't help thinking about both my cars down there. Is there anything I can do? Would 101 tell me anything about the incidents/if they had been reported? Anything my letting agent can do?

Sounds like a grudge of some sort for so many cars to be targeted in one place in a similar way?

The mx5 was in a different car park about 1/4 mile away. Agree it sounds odd about the multiple cars in my car park but it could've just been people with stuff on front seats etc?

What worries me is that this is supposed to be a secure car park with cctv. Genuinely no idea what to do next other than move the cars somewhere else which is a pain in the ass with one of them being sorned atm!

Just called 101 and spoke with someone at police Scotland. She confirmed that 2 incidents were reported today. Was helpful but wouldn't/couldn't give me much more info since it wasn't my car.

Will call the letting agent tomorrow but if anyone else has any ideas it would be appreciated!

I used to live in Cardiff and my strategy was sure you have no valuables in the car, removing the parcel shelf and leaving the glove box open as the majority of the time it's idiots that aren't capable of steeling a new car but will happily help themselves to anything worth more than a penny.

No joke, my car was once broken into and the only item stolen was a magic tree!!!

Clearly the thieves are gaining access somehow - perhaps something to raise with the management company, and presumably the access points should have CCTV on them?

A mate working nights would leave his old Escort unlocked in the open car park. The local toerags still smashed a window to get in.

We also live in a new build with secure underground parking.

Trouble is if you get in, you' re got peace and quiet to do what ever you want undisturbed.

There's also been a couple of "unsocial behaviour" reports relating to a shared roof terrace. Yet somehow people who apparently don't live here are able to get in. Amazes me how people can not give a st about who they let in to the building they live in.

And once in the building, well you've got as much time as you like to break into an individual flat with no one to disturb you.

leave the car empty with the glove box clearly open
this will generally deter thieves from picking your car for a smash and grab if there are plenty of others to choose from

Unless it's a shell-less snail looking for a new home?

Thanks guys. Went down this morning to see another car with a cardboard window. I make that 5 (out of around 30) I've seen now.

Phoned the letting agent to let them inform the factor to do something, not sure there's much else I can do now.

Just hoping it was a one off attack!

Make sure your local police office is aware. You wouldn't believe the amount of people who will not report this type of stuff.

If the police aren't aware there is an issue, there is not much they can do.
