Delivery from amazon we didn't order
Discussion
Hi all
Bit of an awkward situation we are in. Today my wife got a delivery from Amazon for a Xbox one online gaming recording thing. Basically nothing we would ever want or order and costs well is excess of £150 on their site.
We were both bemused when it arrived and just didn't understand what to do next. First thing we thought was to find the receipt inside (there was no paperwork inside). We have not ordered anything from amazon in months, we phoned this afternoon and of course they have no record of delivery. We logged into my wife's amazon today after having our password reset as it was forgotten and it confirms there that no orders placed in over a year.
Please don't think we want the item, we don't want to sell it, we want to send it back but where too?? Will they have any idea why it's being sent to them? Who ordered and paid for this?
Confused and any help very much appreciated. I have a photo of the packaging if it helps but has all the amazon packaging etc.

Have you ever had anything delivered to you on behalf of someone else before? I've had things sent to my relatives if I knew I wouldn't be able to receive a delivery.
Do you have any grandchildren it could be a Christmas gift for, which the parents want delivering elsewhere, so not to ruin a surprise?

Yep, could be something like that, Amazon will collect some "known addresses" and if someone isn't careful, when they order it, it'll go to the last used alternate address.Do you have any grandchildren it could be a Christmas gift for, which the parents want delivering elsewhere, so not to ruin a surprise?
Sounds daft, is it yours or your wifes birthday coming up or anything else you might get presents for?
I don't mean for the XBox thing, but for anything else someone may have ordered for you from Amazon?
The only reason why I'm suggesting it is I've done exactly this last week. I had a problem with a boiler at one of the places we rent out. Plumber goes and looks and says it needs a new PCB. He can get one from the plumbers merchant for about £150, but tells me to look on Ebay. I check, and there they are for about £70 so I get one ordered & add the plumbers address as the delivery address. I then realise I need 1000 poly mailer bags for home so I get them ordered but like a chimp I don't change the delivery address and send 1000 poly mailer bags to the plumber. It took about 4 days before I realised what had happened & about 4 days confusion for the plumber who can't work out why some nobhead has sent him 1000 plastic bags....

I remember receiving a £1000+ HP colour laser printer at my last house, which was labelled up with my name and address on the box.
Couldn't fathom out where it came from, certainly wasn't bought by me so i phoned the supplier on the invoice and got them to take it away the following day. The mystery was solved the following evening, turns out a neighbour a few doors down had put the wrong house number on the order (39 instead of 33) - he also happened to share the same rare surname!

There is not always a receipt in there though. Sometimes just the label on the outside of the package, that is all.
Yes, I've got a sealed manufacturer's box from Amazon waiting to be wrapped up for Christmas. Only paperwork is the courier's label. However at the foot of the label is an Amazon 'Contact us' email address as well as a postal address. We had the opposite happen to us...
The wife ordered a couple of CDs which didn't turn up. She contacted Amazon who sent out another batch. While checking up on all this she realised that the original delivery had been sent her sister's address - my wife had clicked on the wrong delivery address.
She phoned her sister up and lo and behold they were wondering what the hell was going on and why they'd been sent these CDs.

Exactly this - I had a problem after I moved where one-click held onto my old address rather than the new one - even though I had deleted it. my next set of amazon orders all went to my old house - and not me.The wife ordered a couple of CDs which didn't turn up. Was addressed to my wife, no money taken from or bank and no orders on our amazon account.
Credit card? I'd be thinking her credit card has been compromised but the delivery address change failed.Dopey family member sending it to hide until Christmas sounds like a possibility though.
