As long as you've never used a defragmenter on it, you can use System Restore to put the basics back to how it was but it won't remove things you've loaded on since.

Bear in mind that if you format the hard drive and reload Windows, they're withdrawing live support and downloads for XP (I think that's right...)and depending on the age of your original XP pack, you may not be able to download all the patches and upgrades.

You're thinking of the withdrawal of live support for NT, not XP

Not that it makes much difference - I bet if you called PSS with any Windows 2000 sp3 problem the first line of their 'fix it flow chart' would say 'apply the latest service pack'.....

True, but i've got to ring them tomorrow because i can't get two servers past SP2.
And they're doing the same with some IE versions too.
