I have a 2012 c63 facelift with the 19 inch multi spoked alloys factory painted black with a chrome lip. 2 of the alloys have very slight curb damage only to the lip. The centre of the wheel and black paint is untouched.

Is it possible to refurb just the lip? Get them re polished? Or would the whole alloy require refurbishment? If it is the latter I will leave it as that would be overkill.

If the lip can be done does anyone know anyone in the London area they would recommend.

Many thanks in advance.

Go to a reputable wheel repairer as they are diamond cut.

Hopefully they can just repair the damage, but they will need to be good to colour match (titanium) too.

The diamond cutting finish is achieved by using a diamond tipped lathe. So in deciding if possible to do the lip only, you would have to consider if doing so would expose differences in the thickness of the alloy. You need a uniform thickness across the rotational point of the wheel.

Another thing to bare in mind is that, if you are really anal about the quality of the finish, most places struggle to match the cutting mm finish of the tools used by Merc, meaning that machined lines may be slightly thicker than stock in some places. I am talking around a mm or less. Can you tell? - not really, only if extremely up close to the wheel (50 cm distance). Makes them look as good as new. Cost is between 80-100 per wheel in London, and reputable places can paint match. Merc referred me to a third party for my refurb, which seems to be commonplace.

I used A&S wheels in south woodford. They were kind enough to lend me a spare rim as they had to send the wheel off to a specialist factory. Came back within 5 days. There is another place in Northolt which are very reputable, can do the job in around 2 days if dropped off in the morning, but i choose against as i didnt want to leave the car with anyone.
