Anyone have an explanation for this group ?

Mopeds have always been an odd group on my licence, full motorcycle licence 1980, full car licence 1982, mopeds always showed as 1982 for some reason.

It is even worse on my new licence, still full motorcycle 1980, car 1982, but now moped is 07/11/14

Mopeds
Category AM

You can drive 2-wheeled vehicles with a maximum design speed of over 25km/h (15.5mph) but not more than 45km/h (28mph).

This category also includes light quad bikes with:

unladen mass of not more than 350kg (not including batteries if it’s an electric vehicle)
maximum design speed of over 25km/h (15.5mph) but not more than 45km/h (28mph)

There have been changes to the A codes because of changes to how some vehicles are categorised. Some vehicles here used to fall under your B entitlement while the same vehicles in other european countries fell under the A entitlement there. A EU harmonisation has taken place.

Because class P came as standard with a car licence for everybody, even those without a bike licence. The class A from the bike test allowed you to ride mopeds, but if it was removed for whatever reason, you'd still be able to ride 'em, since you'd passed your car test.

AM is subtly different.

You won't have noticed that all those of us without bike licences have gained a class A on our licence, but with a restriction to trikes only.

Can only surmise that it's( AM) got something to do with you having a full bike licence, although why the date change? I always believed I had a Moped licence tagged on with my car pass, but whilst you have AM ( possibly to say you have moped rights through your motorbike licence) I have group P from my rights with my car licence. I can't check dates on my paper copy as it's on life support, waiting for January asit suffers from wallet fatigue .

I've just received a new licence (removing <25Kw restriction category....yes I know I didn't need to) and this has a new AM moped entitlement. Valid from the date of the new licence. Not sure what it means in practice.

My licence situation:

Car licence 93
Restricted Bike Licence Nov 11

On new licence:
Bike entitlement is now shown as Full with a valid from Nov 13 date ( 2 yrs after restricted test pass).
On paper part it records restricted licence test pass in Nov 11, as a superseded entitlement.
