dear all
been onto my (extremely helpful) dealer today about forcing the factory to make official mods to the useless driver's A-pillar seal and lethal seatbelt feeders.

They are more than willing to oblige but we'd have a lot more clout with a concerted effort through all our dealers at the same time.

We're not talking about the numerous other dealer-fixed niggles here, these are fundemental design deficiencies that should never have left the factory.

Any chance you can all make the call this week?

Will supply supply my dealer name off-forum if interested.

All together now.....

Lance,

I've still not had time to take in all the 'design faults' with mine in the two and a half weeks that I've had it, but when we meet on Saturday, if you give me a list of the things that you'll be taking up with your dealer, I'll raise all the same points with TMS when mine goes back in for the 1000 mile service.

I will phone my dealer tommorrow. They are PH'ers.

Also I know for a fact that the factory look at this site as well - not sure if they pay any attention though . I spoke to them recently and was going to email them the list of common problems in any case so this is good reason for me to action this.

Lance,
I have spoken to the service manager at TMS about these issues and have this morning resent my e-mail outlining these faults and several others requiring attention. I was told last week that James from TMS had discussed my cars faults including seatbelt/A pillar with Danielle when he was up at the factory two weeks ago.

Yep, I’m here.
We are moving offices in a few weeks and being the IT guy I’m a bit manic to say the least. I’ll give my dealer a call (TVR Centre) today and get them to chase the factory on the mods. At the moment we are talking about:

Seat belt problem with roof down
Roof / window / door seals
Alloy bit around hand break and Stereo

Is that it or have I missed a couple.
Anyone got any pictures of the new seals or alloy bits ?

Seat belt and seals are a real problem on mine too. Other than that the car is going great guns. Can’t wait to get it on the runway at Duxford. I’ve had no problems with the LCD but have had my rev counter needle stick at the top of the display a couple of time during it’s start-up sweep. This only seems to happen when it’s hot.
Lamonta seems fine after 2,500 miles. Roof is getting trashed getting it in and out of the boot though. Lance, any pictures of the boot carbon fibre fix would be helpfull. Fixed the rubber seals pulling out every time you put it in the boot with the screw through the seal fix, works great. Would be better still if I just cut of the 5” dangly bit of rubber at the leading edge !!!!

That’s about it I think.
Cheers,
Guys

I'm meeting RobertM saturday, he's atking some pictures of my boot mods to post. I seem to have the whole boot/roof seels problem licked now.
We're really pressuring the factory on the seatbelt and driver's A-pillar for now since these are urgent non-dealer fixes (design, not assembly faults). Adding alloy bits etc is nice but not really in this serious context.

Just go a call back from my dealer. They have spoken to the factory about the new seals. Apparently there are new seals that work. But if I want them fitted to my car I would need to pay for them, that’s the line from the factory, not the dealer. The factory said they are constantly making improvement and upgrades to all car and if they retro fitted all of them to older cars they would go bust. I pointed out to my dealer that there are still visible gaps between the roof and the top of the window and the wind noise is terrible even though they have tried to fix this twice. They have now gone back to the factory to request a FOC upgrade. They are also going to speak to them about the seatbelt problem. The dealer agrees that it is a safety issue but said the factory would probably deny that !! I did not even mention the new Alloy bits, not much chance of getting them FOC if they will not even do the seals.
I’ll keep you posted.

If you have constant leaks/bad wind noise then I don't see how they can refuse to replace the seals. The car was faulty when you got it. If the only viable rectification is to replace them then thats what they will have to do.

As for the seatbelt issue that should be a safety recall as its dangerous. I don't see they have much option on that one. Would be interesting to see if they would refuse to fix in writing - I doubt it !

from now on I'm going to refer to them as "rubbers" not "seals". They dont actually seal anything....

The fact is .....

'In every contract of sale goods purchased must be fit for the purpose intended and of a satisfactory quality' - sale of goods act

Leaking seals, gaps between window and roof and large holes in A-pillar are not really satisfactory.

I don't like the way we find out what's wrong with a new car and then have to pay to have it fixed when newer cars get it as standard.....

write to tvr & dealer, advise them of your serious concerns over this potentially lethal problem affecting multiple cars. Request that they respond to confirm that there is no risk to safety, or otherwise provide a recall.

that will get it sorted, belts not working is about as serious as it gets!!!
