Chaps,

Am going through the process of re-doing our lounge. The A/V within the house is sorted (centralised and controlled by Pronto 9600s) so that'll stay the same, but I have the opportunity to look at adding light control, and possibly blind/curtain automation too.

Within the room will be 3 or 4 different light sets, to controlled individually. Ideally they'd be able to accept IR signals from the Pronto, but I could probably get some Cat5e to them if that was the only option.

For the blinds, they're roman blinds with a chain, set within the window aperture. When I last looked there was nothing that would fit within the aperture - has this changed? If they need mains power then it can probably be sorted too.

So, what are the options here?

I think you might struggle to get the desired effect without adding a product like Rako, installing one dimmer per circuit and replacing your light switch with their RF control pads. You can add an Rako bridge to connect to your network and control but there's no IR option,

Lutron do a 'Rania' IR dimmer which could be controlled via IR but it will only control one circuit simultaneously but can be wired into your existing lighting circuit. The Rania's have a remote which I'm sure you could learn on a Pronto.

Actually they do a dual IR dimmer, so two circuits is possible.

Yep, works really well, used it on a couple of projects recently.

They have also started doing full blown blinds and curtains as well. Although I don't thing there will be many that offer just kits to fit to existing window dressings. To many potentials for error/fault.

You could also look at Qmotion for blinds, thier basic controller is custom RF but they also do a relay input and a wifi/iPad/iPhone bridge box.

Be very careful with Rania and Lutron at the moment, we are having issues with dimming LED supplied by a 3rd party. Flashing and under loading of dimmer circuits

It is a joint project with a good electrician friend, so he is looking into it.

We have a Lutron dummy load, but they aren't that good either.

Should get more info next week.

What Led products are you using VEX? Ive recently done a full homeworks project where over 100 drivers needed changing because of incompatibility.

Sort of, The new drivers were supplied by company but they failed to reimburse for the days labour for changing them.

Shot themselves in the foot as have done 3 projects since with over 400 drivers in them.
I did get them to quote for drivers to let them know what i was doing and when i got a follow up call to ask when I'm placing order i told them to Foxtrot Oscar

Fortunately it is only two groups of two channel Rania's and this is the initial showhouse in a group of 8. So good to iron out these issues now on the first one and the we can get good results on all the others.

We always accepted that we would like lose out on labour across the first two units but after that we would be making hay!

They are great looking units as well. Should photograph very nicely as well. We have 3 zones of Sonos, full IT and AV network as well as Lutron Lighting and a fibre Satellite TV system going into each unit. I have the option to supply automated blinds and hdmi extenders into each of them as well.
