I'm thinking of getting some Carbon mirror covers, and was curious of how you remove the current ones, so had a go. To my surprise you can just pull it off in about 2 seconds... no screws etc.

Given how much the carbon covers are, am I just asking for them to be stolen, or is there a way to secure them a little better then the standard ones? Has anyone glued them in place?

Take a screwdriver, there are only 4 screws holding a splitter on.

Yep where do you stop?

There are a number of things that could probably be removed fairly easily from a parked car tbh.

Regarding the wing mirror covers, I applied some clear silicone to help prevent them falling off but I doubt it would deter a thief.

Not sure there's much you could do?

If you glue them on then your local thieving will just pull the whole mirror off rather than just the casing. Experience in S and RS Audis with alloy mirror caps has taught me this.

Best to get one of those South African style anti-hijack devices instead...

One of the things about the carbon housings (assuming they are solid carbon and not a wrap) is that they flex much less easily than the plastic. When installing, it is very easy to remove the plastic, but often a lot harder to install the carbon because of this. Sometimes the tabs don't want to snap in, or it even feels like they are going to break.

I would wager dollars to donuts that the carbon ones would prove very difficult to remove in the same manner.

Course, that doesn't preclude someone from trying.... my guess is if they did they would either give up or break them. Which doesn't exactly help things either.

In the early eighties there was a trend with teenagers stealing VW grille badges and wearing them as jewellery.
I heard about an owner who glued his on, sadly when they stole his they not only got the VW badge but ruined the grille getting it off in the process

I am assuming the OP is talking about Volvo owners here, since an Aston owner would surely not do this?

Slightly more effort required though. Someone could literally remove both covers cleanly in 10 seconds and be selling them to one of us the same night for £400 on ebay.

Yes they do, especially for used parts that are horrendous money from AM. Like bonnet and boot emblems.

The taillight inserts are just as easy to pull off. Maybe a small etch with the legal owners reg number may help?

Well it would save you all from paying for swapping parts.
