Whether their celebrities or not, who in your opinion has the best car collection? Or, who's collection is your favourite?

I agree that 'best' can be defined in many ways, but I'm curious to see how many cracking private collections are out there whether it means 5 or 500 cars, or maybe its about the garage their housed in!

I'll start with my personal faves;

WRC Ledgend Juha Kankkunen - Finland - An amazing collection of cars, from Group B ledgends to an F40 and GTO.
http://www.edmunds.com/car-reviews/features/collec...

'Rainbow Sheikh' Hamad Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan - Giant Pyramid, Abu Dhabi - A collection I experienced myself 2 years ago on a family holiday (sneaking a couple of quid to the collections handyman, which apparently is common practice as its now closed to the public)

And of course Jay Kay & Jay Leno's collections cant be overlooked.

I cant upload pics at work which sucks hence the links, but please post plenty of pics of your selections/nominations!

For me it's Adrian Hamiltons ROFGO collection. Probably the best racing colours ever conceived and a fine selection of cars through the years of Gulf Racing.

In terms of size it was probably James Hull but the collection is now owned by Jaguar. For an individual to put together a collection of that size is astonishing although the range of cars is fairly narrow.

Paul Bailey apparently has around 90 which are all modern high end luxury or supercars. He just seems to buy the latest and greatest though. Very few classics by all accounts.

I really don't think there is much point in having a collection of more than say a dozen as you just won't be able to drive them.

Agree that is a very good museum with the bonus of wine tasting.

Doesn't Bernie Ecclestone have a quite a big collection of interesting GP cars?

The Sultan of Brunai's is pretty extensive, I think. It contains a significant number of one-offs too, IIRC.

I do like Leno's collection, mainly because there is such a diverse selection. An MX-5 sits next to a McLaren F1 which sits next to a Doble steam car, and so on... Very cool cool

About 12 years ago my family and I had the massive good fortune to talk our way into here ~ http://cerpca2.homestead.com/visit-to-brunos-porsc...

Not the largest collection but collected by Bob Snodgrass (what a great man) and his father and based on cars they loved and admired. Bob's father's first Alfa for example but there was also a Pebble Beach winning SL Gullwing. We were shown around by Bob and got to meet Hurly Haywood ~ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurley_Haywood

We got to sign the visitors book under the signatures of Jay Leno and Jerry Seinfeld.

What an afternoon!

Great contribution so far, thanks all. Need to get some pics in here!

As for the Sultan of Brunei's collection, this makes quite an interesting read...

http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2011/03/the-sultan-of-br...

sounds like the mass of his collection is unfortunetly rotting and no good to anyone.

He has some absolute hideous creations in his collection mind you, one being the Ferrari f90. But then he does have the worlds only RHD CLK GTR, so I forgive him haha.

No - I can't forgive him ... he has some wonderful stuff (and some shockers) but it's all just going to waste. Give me a Jay Leno or anyone else that owns cars because they love to drive them any day thumbup

There are 2 RHD CLK GTR's in the world. One a coupe and one a roadster (the roadster was/is on display in the entrance to Mercedes-Benz world)

One was the sultan of Bruneis but the pair went up for auction in 2009 and sold.

Bernie Ecclestone or Ron Dennis have amazing cars stashed away across the world. Bernie has pretty well one of every single GP car ever raced and a vast collection of very exotic cars down at Biggin Hill.

Rons has cars in Woking and elsewhere including some very special 'project cars'.

My third choice is Mike Kittredge the chap who started Yankee Candles and recently sold out for a life collecting cars, jets and boats, plus 400 million in cash.

The Lingenfilter collection in the US is over 200 strong and has some amazing cars.

Finally Richard Griot has a very unusual collection....breath taking.
