Last time you had to take evasive manoeuvres!
Discussion
For me, about an hour ago.
I'm travelling around a right hand bend when suddenly there's a white 4x4 coming towards me on my side of the road....overtaking a cyclist.
Luckily for me there was a clear junction on my left that I had to slightly veer into. With different circumstances the outcome could have been a lot worse.
I haven't been doing as much driving recently, it's just reminded me that there's a muppet around every corner.

Last Summer after coming round this bend to find a van overtaking a car with not much room to spare.

That image is deceptive though with the height of the camera, you can't see anywhere near as much until you're past the solid white line.
Needless to say the brakes were stepped on. I flashed the guy and he just gave me the finger. You think a normal person would perhaps put their hands up but no...

Few years ago. Driving along dual carriageway. Layby ahead - the type with a chevroned area separating it from the road.
Old lady parked in it.
Just as i came up to it she turned 90 degrees, no indicators, across the chevrons, directly into my path.
Huge evasive action from me. Squealing tyres as i wrestled the car over to the outside lane to avoid her.
Other than that, taking avoiding action is a regular occurance when on the bike

Last time I had to take major evasive action was about 12 years ago.
Straight NSL road, junction to the left. Broken down van opposite junction on other side of road. Queue of traffic waiting behind him.
I was doing 60mph, as the queue was waiting for me to come past before they could go again (to be fair I would always do 60 along that stretch of road).
Mini Metro pulls out of junction, in front of me. I had no chance to stop (probably ten yards in front of me). I swerve behind the stopped van into the on coming traffic queue and then back in front of the metro.
Still to this day I do not know how I missed everything....
Lets say my observation skills sharpened somewhat after that and slowed me down too.

I had to do an emergency stop to avoid a pheasant a few days ago. I was only doing about 30mph though, so it wasn't especially dramatic.
Bloody stupid creatures.
I have a theory about pheasants. Bloody stupid creatures.
They are too stupid to fly and that there are people hiding behind hedges throwing them at cars!

(For some reason they seem to remind me of a drunk Scotsman (might be me
) rumbling home from the pub!
) Today, some muppet rejoining the A12 from a layby in a van, mobile pinned to his face and attempting to merge at less than 30mph.
I was fully loaded (32 tonnes), doing 50mph and the lane beside me was occupied - I chucked my main beam on, airhorns squarking and hoping he would stop - he did but oh my that could have been messy.
When he passed me a mile or so later he offered a raised hand in acknowledgement of his actions but blimey, that could have been one for Sally Traffic to report.

I can't remember the last time I had to actually do a swerve, I know I had to recently but can't remember why.
The closest to an accident recently was overtaking on a dual carriageway and a s
tty little Suzuki came from a slip road straight into the outside lane, to start their overtaking, I braked bloody hard and just missed the back of their car.
I can easily say my horn has never been blasted for a longer amount of time, probably a good 5 seconds and some light flashing, very close to getting real road rage, I was furious.

Last week- in the pissing rain down a fast country road with overhanging trees behind a big lorry.
Was about 4 car lengths behind the truck, which t
tted a tree hard enough to drop a 6 foot branch on the road afew metres infront of me.
Dab of brakes and a deft swerve saw me safely round it- luckily no oncoming traffic.
Was in my Z3, first time it's properly been tested with regards to evasive action. Behaved impeccably.

Long shot but that isn't the A947 by any chance is it? Near Turriff?
