After looking at cheaper alternatives for an S2000 that I am viewing this weekend, it occurred to me that R26 F1's can be had for quite cheap now. This one for example is nearly half the price of the S2000 i'm looking at but shirley it isn't half as good a car?

What do you think?

Very nice. Personally I'd have to get a liquid yellow one but the mileage and FSH on that car would make me care a bit less about the colour.

My friend just sold his, FSH, cambelt done, scorpion exhaust, decent induction kit and a remap. Great condition all around, he put it up on eBay and it didn't get a bid at £4k yikes

So he traded it for a Cat D Golf Gti mk5 with 108k on the clock irked

Serious bargain at the moment.

Liquid yellow is strange, I really like it to look at yet I wouldn't have one myself. I know it's a nice car but what do you think about getting one instead of an S2000 and keeping the change??

That does concern me a bit, I had a clio 182 in the past and when I tried to sell that I didn't get a single serious enquiry. They do seem to be hard to sell these Renaultsport cars. Thing is though at the price of the one I have put up if I ran it for 2 years and then sold it for £2-2.5k it wouldn't bother me.

Small detail but I thought the F1 version was 230bhp rather than 225. Very very capable cars, just check it's had a brake refresh as that can be very expensive to do.

That's not an R26, hence the price.

You're looking at 5.5k entry for an R26, higher for a respectable.

Well it really depends on what you are really willing to spend.

Personally I'd have an S2000 over a Megane F1, but I think they are brilliant although completely different.

I'm aware that it was supposed to be 230 but thought it might be a mistake as I don't know the model range very well for this. I'd take a look at the logbook to be sure.

What is the difference between an R26 230 and a 225 F1? Is 5 bhp all the extra price is getting you?

Yeah the one in the OP isn't a 230 R26 its a 225 F1, the decals are wrong for a start. The 230 was the only one to come with an LSD too so well worth the extra if you can push your budget.

I didn't know there was a difference, sorry to those in the know. Is the R26 really worth the premium though?

I've only had an R26 so can't comment on the earlier model but the Limited Slip Differential was amazing at pulling you round corners.

There's changes to the chassis and suspension too IIRC.

They use different springs iirc but the dampers are the same on the F1/R26/Cup?
